A few weeks ago I was invited by BCA to Hong Kong Cafe in Sarinah to have to the opportunity to gather with fellow bloggers to discuss about an event called Badminton Indonesia Open.
A group of people attended the gathering and I was fortunate enough to have met leaders of PBSI (Persatuan Bulutangkis Seluruh Indonesia) and also professional Badminton players. For those of you who have no idea what PBSI is, its basically a club or kinda like a group of people sharing the same interest of playing badminton professionally.
During the gathering I was given valuable knowledge about badminton and BCA’s role in the event. Badminton Open Indonesia is BCA’s biggest CSR and they are the main sponsor for the event. One of the professional Badminton athlete, Fran Kurniawan Teng shared about his passion in badminton and his rigorous training everyday. He spends most of his time training and shared to us about his previous wins and also challenges along the way on how he hopes to win for Indonesia in the future. The leaders of PP PBSI, Corporate Secretary of BCA Ibu Inge Setiawati and Head of Public Relations and Social Media PP PBSI Ibu Yuni Kartika, were also very optimistic that Indonesia will win in the near future.
A week after the gathering, I attended Badminton Open Indonesia on Friday the 3rd at Istora Senayan. As I watch the match between Indonesia and Denmark I could feel the thrill and excitement. Although the Indonesian team lost, Indonesia still gets another chance next year if they are still optimistic on winning! I was watching from the the press area and even though I’m not a big fan of badminton nor any sports, infact, I was literally taken away by the spirit of the audience cheering for team Indonesia and just the thrill of watching the players play. This was a first time experience for me watching live sports in Indonesia.
Anyways, here’s a glimpse of history about Indonesia open events. This year, 2016, marks the third year for BCA to host the event alongside with Djarum. Indonesia has previously won a lot of awards in Badminton thanks to players Ardy Wiranata, Taufik Hidayat, etc. And in addition, Indonesia has won many tournaments before in the years 1983, 1996, 1997 and 2001.
All in all, the Badminton event held at Istora Senayan was a blast to attend to because of the thrill, and this should be a fun event if you were to come with friends or family. There were also a lot of food vendors in the area, and I was happy to have come to support for team Indonesia.
