Bake and Dine with Breadlife!

20140709-141829-51509756.jpgLast week I was invited to an event by BBlog Indonesia and I was asked if I could come to Breadlife in Living World to taste the new edition to their fine selection of bread. I was very interested and I decided to join in with other fellow food bloggers. The experience was both fun and I got to decorate my own cake! How cool was that? Decorating my own cake was pretty hard as I am not an experiencde cook or even pastry chef or whatever you call it. But it turned out okay… I guess. You be the judge.

20140709-141829-51509973.jpgTo start off, we were given different selection of bread to taste and they introduced us their newest edition which was the Cheese and Chocolate Ball. The “Ball” part is inspired by the World Cup season and the bread won’t be here for long as they will only sell it for this certain period of time only. Apart from that, they also had Lebaran packages for those of you who celebrate Ramadhan and the packages seems pretty cool and affordable.

20140709-143137-52297227.jpgMoving on, we tasted two big trays of bread. I ate a lot and I think I tried almost every single bread there is in Breadlife today! Readers, I’m sorry but I got to admit that I’m such a pig (lol). My favorite one has got to be the cheese ring. I like how they have the melted cheese inside and the crusty cheese outside. It gives a perfect combination. Also the rugby ball bread has got to be my favorite and the tiger roll which also consists of cucumber inside! How unusual but I like the taste.

I also tried their new drinks and I tried the Green Tea frap. Honestly, it tasted pretty similar to the one I always have in Starbucks yet I think it had more whipped cream in it or maybe its slightly sweeter.

Last but not least, I’d like to thank Breadlife for inviting me to the event and Bblog Indonesia especially for everything!

TWG Tea Salon & Boutique

TWG has just opened in Plaza Senayan and this franchise from Singapore is very nice. The place is split into two, the first half they have the tea store and the other half, the dining area. Every time I go there the place is very crowded and packed. You have to put your name down the list and wait for around 5-10 mins. If you’re lucky you can just get it anytime. The tea list there was extensive and I had trouble choosing but I have to say that Emperor Sencha has got to be my favorite. The interior is decorated with golden decorations and tea pots. Its very grand and its like the old Great Gatsby themed look. The food there were appetizing and the Eggs Benedict has got to be the best. I think this place is good to have for brunch and just high tea. The ambience was very welcoming and I was impressed by the design and it feels like going back through time. You should definitely check this place out if you love tea!

Cronut Craze!!!

Who says the Cronut Fever isn’t over yet? People in America are spending a lot of big bucks just for this. I honestly think its ridiculous that they have “black markets” just for this.

If you’re still reading this and still have no idea what and wondering what “cronuts” are… they’re basically croissant and donut put together. Two very delicious things combined into one perfect combination. To answer your question, “Where do I get them here in Jakarta?” I will tell you three places that offers these unique type of food.

The first place I will introduce will be my my favorite cronut place and its from the Mandarin Oriental Cake Shop!

I love the cronut from this place so much because they give special attention to it and the texture of their cronut is crispy in the outside, soft in the inside and the filling just melts in your mouth. Don’t you love the feeling of all that into one thing. One try and you can get obsessed like me. I feel that this has to be the best place to get cronut in Jakarta. I also think that its relatively cheap because just for one cronut it costs you Rp. 25,000 for the Vanilla one, and its in a hotel. Eventhough you have to wait for 20 minutes for the cronut, its worth the wait as it comes fresh from the oven and is only prepared as you order.

Another place where you can get cronuts is Madame Lily in Plaza Indonesia. Its good and pretty decent. If this is your first time eating them I think this should be really good for you. And if you have a sweet tooth on really sweet taste this should just be the thing for you. You’d love it because its very sweet. My honest opinion about this is, its too sweet for me. But don’t get me wrong, I just don’t like foods that are too sweet.

The third place where you can get them is in Union, Plaza Senayan. However I don’t think its their specialty so its ‘okay’. Its not as good as the one from Mandarin Oriental Cake Shop. I feel that the cronut is rather soggy because its pretty oily. Even so, Union’s red velvet is way better and I think they win just from that.

Union has opened in Plaza Senayan for several years now and it still hasn’t lost its popularity. The restaurant is always packed with people and to get in you have to wait in a long queue. They also give a maximum reservation time. So basically you can only eat there for about 2 hours. The people there are kinda rushing you but honestly I feel that 2 hours is enough to spend eating and you can be done by that time. The service was okay; well maybe it was because it was too packed when I came and food tasted great. I have to say that my favorite would be the scallop spaghetti. It was good and I also tried out the red velvet. Union is very much known for their red velvet and it would be ashamed if I missed out on it. The texture of the cake is soft and light. Just the way I like it. Ambience of the restaurant is very much loud because its super crowded and I don’t know why but the lights were rather dim. However I liked how they designed the interior because its pretty classy and nothing like most restaurants in Jakarta. Its a very different concept and the ambience is very welcoming.

Today I had to go and try out this relatively new restaurant located in Jalan Barito. You can spot this restaurant easily because it has this bright orange sign. I heard that this restaurant is also owned by the same owner who owns this Indonesian restaurant in Plaza Senayan; Roemah Rempah. The exterior of the building was pretty much normal however the inside impressed me a little. They had many decorated cake displays, and the furniture was rather unique. The first level was for the bakery and the second floor was for you to have your lunch/dinner. They sell a bunch of cakes which I think are very interesting and appealing to the eyes. The food was good but I say the deserts win because I think this was their speciality.

Belly Clan

Belly Clan is a relatively new restaurant located in the Intiland building in Sudirman (ex Dharmala building). I think this is the only new restaurant they have there because the rest are old. The place is pretty much ordinary but the vibe or ambience was very welcoming. The place is very spacious and during lunch time it gets packed. The service was just good and the food tasted good as well. The food wasn’t special or anything but it was tasty. Something unique I found out about this restaurant was the Rainbow in A Jar, a typical rainbow cake you can find in many trendy cafes in Jakarta but uniquely placed in a jar. I think this is very appealing to me and to teens nowadays as its like the trending thing now in Jakarta.

Colette and Lola

Cakes and Dreams. Finally! there’s a fresh concept unlike any other bakeries in Jakarta – one that connects someone’s dreams to the cakes. This is one of my favorite places now and oh how I love their cakes. They are very cute looking and I just adore their cakes because its scrumptious. Ambience of this place is really crowded but its okay because you can still chill and just hang with friends and eat cake there. For you with sweet tooth.. definitely check this place out!
