Portico- Feastopia!

Portico had a recent event called Feastopia and I did not hesitate to go and try it with my friends. First I was under the impression of just a pretty so-so dish in Portico. Because when I went here a few years ago it did not occur to me that I would want to come back and eat here again. However it changed and I pretty much liked the food during the Feastopia event.


For the appetizer, I had the Ahi Poke Salad. It consist of Hawaiian Tuna Tartar with Edamame, Avocado & Cherry Tomatoes topped with Alfalfa Sprout. I liked the taste and it gives the fresh sort of feeling when you eat the salad.



For the main I hasted to order the Gindara Lemon butter. I liked how its not rubbery and very soft. Basically the Gindara is just pan seared and it has a few sauces on top and a mix of assorted veggies under it.


Lastly, the dessert was the main killer. I absolute love the Banoffie Pie in a Jar. The caramelized banana was just really good and I’m a big fan of chocolate.


I had a fun experience dining in Portico and loved the Feastopia dinner menu. They also had live music and the ambience was great overall. 🙂

Tugu Kunskring Paleis


A few weeks ago my friends and I decided to go for a food hunting day and we have picked Tugu Kunskring Paleis for our venture. This place is pretty much historical and there were a bunch of world class painting masterpieces displayed. I was so excited to go here because I wanted to see one of Pablo Picasso’s pieces and unfortunately while I was there, they kept it away in storage. I was very disappointed however there were still a bunch of other art pieces and the place itself is already very interesting.


There we decided to try some of the dishes and one of the highlights was trying the Ayam Setan (Devil Chicken). It was spicy and the flavors were very bold. I liked how the chicken was made tender and you can smell some Inonesian spices.


We also had the bitter balen. This dish I guess is pretty much inspired by the Dutch and I like how its crispy in the outside and soft in the inside.


We also had the fish and it tasted pretty decent and again, there we could taste a lot of the Indonesian spices.20140709-143802-52682372.jpg

This is the room where we dined and it was pretty massive for only the three of us eating there. We were also told that a few days before we were here, Victoria Beckham had dinner here and also the Sukarno family. The Sukarno family even had a VIP room named after them in this restaurant!






In this restaurant they also have a gift shop and they sell a bunch of nice antiques. Oh and a tip for you guys if you want to come. You can ask the person there to give you a tour of the place! 🙂

Mercure Hotel Alam Sutera: Friday BBQ Night


It’s BBQ Night at Mercure Alam Sutera every Friday. This newly opened hotel that was just opened in November of last year has a pretty awesome decor and the pool view is fantastic. I came there at night and I could see lights from other buiildings twinkling and its very chill and welcoming. Anyways, back to the BBQ Night. BBQ Night in Mercure Hotel happens every Friday night from 7pm to 10pm. Its an all you can eat dinner and it costs IDR 200K ++ per person. It offers assorted BBQ (chicken, beef, and seafood), yummy appetizers, and highly enjoyable desserts.



Oh, not to mention they have live music! And if you want to do a song request they’d let you 😀 How fun does that sound, and if you are willing to sing and entertain the other guest you are more than welcome too! Ha-ha!


Here are the many plates of heavenly assorted BBQ from beef, chicken to seafood. I liked the patties and sausages the best. The lamb chop is not to be missed as well. It was very chewy and their patties taste awesome because you could feel the other ingredients they mixed with like garlic and those good stuff.

And to close, they have numerous selections of deserts starting from chocolate cakes to fruity deserts. They have it all! My personal favorite would be the caramelised apple. They’re bite sizes and they serve them on soup spoons.

Holy Crab

HOLY CRAB. Okay, this restaurant has got to be my current favorite. The seafood, especially the crab here tastes amazing! Its pretty much similar to the one they have in the States only they have made it to suit more of the Indonesian palette or in other words suited to what Jakartans would like. The sauce tasted very crisp and flavoursome. However price wise, it’s a bit expensive. Afterall, my experience eating here was worth it and it’s definitely a place where I would go back and eat here again (Highly recommended). Enough talking, let the pictures speak for itself…. *drum rolls*


Oh, and one more thing! They don’t serve the food on regular plates and you have to eat with your bare hands…

For those of you who don’t know what nitrogen ice creams are they’re basically ice cream made of nitrogen liquid and its those smokey- smokey thing made from dry ice. So here are the places you should visit if you want to go get them!

20140228-230127.jpgIsmaya Catering Co offers a wide range of food from different countries: Indonesian, Mexican, American, Italian, you name it! I was fortunate enough to come and taste their new menu on February 26th. The food was amazing and going there was totally worth my time. Getting invited to eat at dinner with other food bloggers was a new experience for me and I had a lot of fun. If you’re thinking I’m just writing a good review for them because they gave me free food you are wrong. It was a superb dinner and it tasted great.



As starters we were served lychee refreshers to soothe our dry throats. Honestly, it tasted sweet and refreshing. Just the way I like it. Moving on to food, we were served Nachos with Beef Chili Con Carne (45k) and Mexican Cheese Quesadilla (48k). The Quesidilas was enjoyable however the Nachos were rather too sweet for me. Even so, the guacamole sauce and everything was blended together and everything in the dish provides unity and tasted amazing.




After that we moved on to try their main course, Nasi Goreng Kecombrang (45k), Soto Tangkar with Jasmine Rice (45k) and Double Trouble Spaghetti (65k). Even though it does not go well altogether, it was nice having different choices of food on the dinner table. You get to experience different food from different countries. The Nasi Goreng tasted wonderful. Eventhough it looks plain the flavor was tangy, nice and it was a unique mix flavors indeed. The Soto Tangkar tasted really nice. Kinda like the Soto Gebrak kuningan which I really like. I will be doing another review on this soon. It was full of flavors and I can taste the spices. And the Spaghetti was ultimately the best. Maybe, I just love pork skin, it was super crunchy and pork and pasta are both good combinations.


20140228-230051.jpgFor deserts we had Molten Chocolate Cake with Vanilla Ice Cream (40k) and Singkong Belanda (32k). The Molten Lava Cake was nice, moist and when you cut it you can see the chocolate bursting out.  The Singkong was fried evenly and you can feel the crisp all through out. The caramel sauce on top also complements it well. Last but not least we also tried more refreshers and I think the watermelon is worth the try. Its super refreshing and even though I was super full I get to take more sips. All in all, thanks again to ISMAYA for inviting me to the dinner experience. It was great and I hope I can review more food from these restaurant branches.

Angus Steak House


Angus Steak House is a restaurant classic. It’s been here in Jakarta for ages and it’s still got to be the best place to enjoy Japanese steak. Their steaks are cooked to perfection and the taste is just phenomenal! I love this place so much and you can order their set menu and eat a full course. The picture above shows the full course menu they serve. The ambience of the restaurant is pretty nice and it just gets you in the mood to eat a lot. Its a lovely place to just relax and enjoy yourself and your food.
